This important palace was the seat of the University until 1803. In 1838, it became home to the Municipal Library. Inside we admire thousands of curious coats-of-arms and student names and the stunning anatomical wooden theater.
Delicatessens, jewelers, butchers, fruit and vegetable stalls, fishmongers, bakeries, historic workshops and other handicraft activities: the “Quadrilatero” area has an ancient tradition and kept its trade vocation throughout the years.
One of the most charming squares of Bologna, it is dominated by the ancient basilica of Santo Stefano, also known as “the seven churches”. Today we can admire four of them and a beautiful romanic cloister.. a real doozy!
The itinerary ends under the two towers, the Asinelli and the Garisenda, symbol of Bologna and essential element of the city skyline. The towers are strategically placed at the entry point in the city of the ancient Via Emilia (Aemilian Way).
